A case for “Netcasting” over “Podcasting”?

03 May 2009

I found this article on Scribd claiming to have submitted a document to the WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization) that pleads to have the term “Netcasting” entered into the lexicon.  Tell me what you think, leave a comment below.

What is a “Pitchman”?

21 April 2009
Anthony Sullivan, Chuck Palm, and Billy Mays, 3 top notch Pitchmen!

Anthony Sullivan, Chuck Palm, and Billy Mays, 3 top notch Pitchmen!

It was my special privlege to attend the premiere party for Discovery Channel’s hit new show called “Pitchmen”, airing on Wed. nights.  The swave guys in the picture above (minus the one in the middle) are the stars of this new series that helps entrepeneurs realize their dreams.  Anthony Sullivan of the Swivel Sweeper fame, and Billy Mays, Kaboom, Oxy Clean, and others are both Tampa residents that have been working hard with the Telebrands company to discover cool new products, and work their “pitch” magic on short infomercials.  Being in new media means that I get to “pitch” a company or idea via a Netcast, (or Podcast, if you must!) and have been quoted saying “I’m not producing infomercials, we tell stories.  If you want an infomercial, we’ll get Sully and Billy, they’re the best!”  Hats off to you guys, check out their show, it is an inspirational journey in the life of real people that they help become super sales leaders!

“Successful and Fabulous” #1

13 April 2009

For those of you with a Facebook account (I really recommend that you get one) there is a group called “Successful and Fabulous People”
that has asked me to be a contributing writer.  I submitted this post today, if you like the concept of this group, please join.  I invite your comments on this post, please feel free to add to the conversation!

Live a life of gratefulness!

Greetings to all the Successful and Fabulous people out there!

I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself, and say thank you very much to the lovely Nicole for adding me to the group, and asking that I contribute and impart a few “words of wisdom”, or a least, a spark of inspiration and motivation that we all need from time to time.

My name is Chuck Palm, from the very beautiful city of Tampa, FL. I am a husband of 20 years, father of 2, and a prolific Podcaster, which means I never know when to shut up! I am so blessed in many ways to be doing what I love, for myself, for more than 10 years now. I can tell you, there were plenty of times I have been down, depressed, anxious, and nervous, to the point of sleeplessness, and not for lack of motivation, but lack of perspective!

I’m not one for giving too much advice, in fact, I consider myself a storyteller, a “raconteur”, someone who relates things to events that everyone can understand. That being said, I get plenty of it, and most of it, I seek out myself. The free advice I get unsolicited, is usually worth every penny! The most sage advice I have ever received, has come from many sources, but it all leads me back to the same thing. To become successful, you need to be grateful! Not the other way around! Money does not make people happy, success is not the measure of money, and fame can totally wipe you out, if you let it get to you! So, when do you have time to be grateful? Every day when I open my eyes, I am thankful for the sight I’ve been give to see all the wondrous things in creation, l cannot begin to describe how lucky I am to be alive, at this very moment in time!

Do I ever fall back, get depressed, or disheartened? You bet! Every day we feel the cold, hard slap of reality across our cheeks, just to remind us that we are human, and like anything human, you need work. You need to constantly work on yourself, your image, your value, your attitude, everything! Everybody has a bad hair day now and again! My suggestion is to wash it! Wash away your bad hair day, use a bit of conditioner, (like inspirational music, words, a “good book”, you choose!) and just start over. The brilliance of life is that we get an infinite amount of “do-overs”, just like sandlot baseball.

Take the time to write up a list of just the smallest things in life that you have to be grateful for, and then, write down all your troubles, large and small on the other side of the sheet. If you were honest, II’ll bet dollars to doughnuts that your list of life’s “little” blessings FAR outweigh your troubles, and you’ll have a bit of perspective about gratefulness.

I look forward to your comments and feedback, feel free to submit them through the group, or on my blog at www.chuckpalm.com . Thanks for your kind attention, here’s to your success!

All my Best,

Chuck Palm

It’s been a busy month already, lots going on as you can tell.  Not that I’m lazy (ok, so I’m lazy!), but I thought it would be best to sum it up in a podcast.  Novel idea, huh?  Considering I’ve done about 30 already this month, I figured, “What the heck, it will take less time than typing it all out!”.

Twitter – Really? Why?

21 February 2009
So I admit I am a geek, I take some pride in the fact that I have been in tech related jobs for about 15 years now, 10 of which I have been working for myself.  In that time, I have had service businesses, and web related businesses, but rarely do you see the kind of phenomenon that Twitter has brought, and it has been hitting cyberspace right between the i-’s.

I of course had to embrace this new communications platform, so I could claim my rank (96.8) in the “Twitterverse”…one of the Florida Twitter Elite, or so I thought.  (It seems if you add Tampa FL USA to the rank, I need a 98 or higher to make it to the top 50!  Damn, I need more followers!)

My friend @VLEdwards works for Linkshare and is one of the twitterati that ranks above a 98, and gave me some twitter tips and link love, It was then I realized the potential of Twitter and why one should spend time on what on the surface seems to be an inane practice of self flagellation. (Put THAT in your Funk and Wagnalls

This caused me to go on a quest, seeking knowledge about twitter, and how it might help increase my “Web Celeb” status, and overall karma online.  The best place to learn is from those already doing, so, I sought out the Oracle of Leo (a.k.a. Leo Laporte, @leolaporte for the twit-heads).  Leo is a podcasting god, doing about 13 unique podcast shows each week, and like me, he prefers the term “Netcast”.  More on that later.

So Leo is on the radio (yeah, I have no idea how that guy gets any sleep) and said that www.Zappos.com has a great store, and their CEO, Tony @zappos was an avid user of Twitter.  Ok,Tony is a HUGE success online, and Zappos is awesome for customer support and way cool products  (See my previous post about my Blue Suede Shoes, BABY!).  How is it he has time, let alone uses twitter to reach out to prospects or his existing customer base?  I later found out that it is company policy, and a big chunk of the staff tweet regularly!  (Yes. tweet is the past tense for twitted…not a word either, but hey, let’s not split feathers here.)

OK, now I follow Tony at Zappos, and then BAM!  All these people start following me, including some of the aforementioned Web Celebs!  Come to find out, there is a program that runs to automatically follow other twitters that follow you, who knew?)

So, if you are not on www.twitter.com , I recommend you listen to this podcast by my friend and client @berniebay and add me as @chuckpalm today!  I promise you I will only tweet when sober, and about relevant info, or at least mildly humorous.

Palmcast 2009?

06 January 2009

Why is the title formed as a question? Because I am uncertain if I can keep up with it, but, like most things we resolve to do for the new year, I certainly HOPE to keep up with the posts! I am seriously considering doing a weekly recap of my mad mad mad world, maybe even with video iput from my birthday cam.
So, stay tuned, lock it in, subscribe on iTunes or here with your favorite podcatcher!

It’s finally here! After a long wait, and much anticipation, it’s the new PALMCAST!
OK, maybe not much anticipation, but, someone asked.

palmcast - chuck palm

Palmcast - Chuck Palm

That is why I brought it back, that reason, and the fact that I miss doing podcasts for fun! The fact that I turned my passion into a business is not unusual for me, but, I feel that if I combine some aspects of my personal life, with what I love to do in my business, then, this could be a great outlet.

I am going to try to do this weekly, mostly personal podcast, to keep my friends and family up to date with what I’m doing at IPN (the Internet Podcasting Network), and for those new clients that are interested in a different aspect of my life. Many clients we sell podcasts to don’t ever think of using their personal blog to do podcasts, and I tell them this is how podcasting got it’s start!
